I added some additional details to the floor plan. The blue area is the original floor plan and is where the cellar is located under the house. The orange area was a separate building that was formerly used as the kitchen. The red area was also a separate building and became the kitchen in the 1990's. The area with the diagonal lines is where the upstairs master bedroom, bathroom and closet are located.
The mudroom is where we enter and exit the house. The porch off of the dining area is where visitors come to the door. The front foyer is unused and may become a bedroom closet.

Ah, so the Jack and Jill bathroom is the heart of the home - got it! So you have to walk through a bedroom to get from the front door to public rooms in the house? Why can't the front right bedroom be the living room and you put a french door between that room and Andy's office?
ReplyDeleteWe are unlikely to ever use the front door. When guests come to the house they come to the door at the dining room. We are planning to use the foyer as the closets for the bedrooms. We will keep exercise equipment in the red room.
ReplyDeleteOriginally the front right room was used as the living room. It used to have a very large fireplace.
Yeah, the driveway doesn't go anywhere near that official front door (it basically opens onto the cornfield). It'll make a lot more sense when you see it.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the floor plan Andy.
ReplyDeleteNice job and fun to hear how it evolved. Are there still working fireplaces?
ReplyDeleteSadly not, although we do hope to restore at least one of them sometime in the next 30 years or so. ;)
